Programs and Events

Each year SHSA raises money to support student enrichment programs. Parents and teachers provide feedback to help SHSA determine what programs are most valuable.

The money we raised last year allowed us to expand Starting Arts to include the ukulele, add money for each grade to take field trips, bring back science enrichment and continue our teacher stipends to help them purchase supplies for their classrooms.

Art and Music Enrichment

Access to the arts improves creativity and self-expression. SHSA partners with Starting Arts to provide a unique learning environment where students think and communicate through music and movement. Starting Arts provides hands-on arts experience in dance, music, theater and visual arts in classes taught by skilled professional artists eager to share their expert knowledge and passion with students.

Art Vista presents fine art to children and offers an opportunity for hands-on experiences with art techniques. All grade levels enjoy six lessons presented by parent volunteers throughout the school year. Their art creations will be on display at the annual Schallenberger Open House.  This requires 1-3 parent volunteers in each class.

Science Enrichment

SHSA enhances the school science curriculum with additional workshops throughout the year.

Students in 2nd-5th grade participate in Schmahl Science four workshops throughout the year. Schmahl Science programs inspire and empower youth to become young scientists. Their firm belief that learning good science should be fun is the cornerstone of their program.

Teachers in TK-1st grade have money for additional science curriculum and are selecting the right program for their classes.

Project Cornerstone

Project Cornerstone is designed to help communities build a web of support around young people so that they grow into healthy, caring and responsible adults. The goal is to equip students  to deal with challenging situations in a positive and constructive manner for themselves and the community. This program relies on parent volunteers in each classroom.

Hi-Five Recess Support

We’re focused on creating a positive school climate where all students feel valued and respected. To support that we’ve partnered with Hi-Five to provide recess support to help students resolve conflict.

Field Trip Support

This year we’ve allocated funds to help pay for field trips at each grade level.

Teacher Support

Each year, SHSA provides stipends to help teachers purchase classroom supplies. We also set aside funds for staff and teacher appreciation.

Community Events

SHSA hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including family movie nights and dance parties, to build community and help our families get to know each other.

Our Walk-a-thon, Fall Festival and Spring Gala events are also large fundraisers for SHSA.
